Centenary Trees

For 100 years, the Campaign to Protect Rural England has stood up for the countryside.

From campaigning for the first Green Belts and National Parks to winning protections for hedgerows and championing better planning legislation, local food systems and sustainable development. Yet the countryside currently faces intensifying and unprecedented pressures: from the climate and nature emergencies to needless loss from poorly planned development.

That’s why our centenary is more than a celebration, it’s a call to action and a reminder that CPRE’s role is more important than ever. It’s an invitation to love your countryside, to protect what matters, regenerate what’s been lost and connect to the places that sustain us all.

What We Aim to Achieve

As part of our centenary activities, we’re looking to plant 100 new trees across the county in as many different parishes as we can. These trees may be oak, rowan or field maple, depending on location but we’re hoping that they will provide a lasting legacy and a reminder of the resilience of nature in the modern environment.

We’re looking for:

  • Parish councils interested in planting a future landmark for your local community.
  • Local companies – a chance for local businesses to align your brand with longevity and sustainability and support the restoration of nature in your local environment.
  • Schools and colleges with a suitable site for a tree which could become a legacy for current students and help demonstrate how native trees support biodiversity.
  • Care homes – an opportunity to enhance your outdoor space and provide a lasting symbol of wellbeing.

Get Involved

If you want your site to be the recipient of one of these centenary plantings, then email us, and we’ll send you full details of how and when your centenary tree will reach you.

We’ll provide a unique ‘centenary planting pack’ for each tree to ensure you’ll have everything you need, including timber stake, biodegradable spiral guard, mulch mat and a unique QR-coded plaque identifying your tree as one of our exclusive centenary plantings.

You’ll also receive an official ‘custodian certificate’ and your tree will get its own page in our centenary tree library on our CPRE Leicestershire website. We’ll even post anniversary photos so you can demonstrate your centenary tree maturing over the coming years.

Remember, we only have 100 of these trees available, so contact us now to secure yours!
