The Branch has been involved with a Hedge laying project
In January, some Branch members learnt about the art of hedge laying at Mill Field Forest Garden in Thurmaston. This is one of the projects supported by CPRE’s Hedgerows Heroes scheme.
Senior members of staff from CPRE national office joined the incredible TCV conservation volunteers team on a wet January afternoon and our Branch Chair, Tony Stott, also lent a hand.
Later on another team of national and regional CPRE staff enjoyed a bright and crisp winter’s day and got stuck into laying a ‘dead hedge’ and learning the traditional rural skill of hedge laying.
Nationally, CPRE is calling for 40% more hedgerows by 2050 which requires 4000 miles of new and restored hedgerows per year, starting now.
