June Planning Round-Up: Recent Objections Across Leicestershire

CPRE Leicestershire has recently submitted objections to a number of significant planning applications across the county. While each proposal is different, many raise concerns around countryside loss, biodiversity impacts, infrastructure pressure and the importance of plan-led development.

📍 Sharnford

Proposal: 120 homes and a retail unit

Location: Land north of Leicester Road

Key concerns:

• Development in open countryside

• Similar proposal previously dismissed on appeal

• Conflict with the Fosse Villages Neighbourhood Plan

• Increased car dependency

📍 Desford

Proposal: 83 homes

Location: Charity Close

Key concerns:

• Development outside the settlement boundary

• Impact on the countryside and local wildlife

• Pressure on local road infrastructure

• Desford has already exceeded housing requirements

📍 Isley Woodhouse

Proposal: Up to 4,250 homes, schools and employment land

Location: South of Donington Park

Key concerns:

• Creation of a new settlement in open countryside

• Loss of rural character

• Urban sprawl between existing villages

• Significant infrastructure and traffic impacts

📍 Diseworth

Proposal: 1.4 million sq ft logistics development

Location: South of the A453

Key concerns:

• Loss of productive farmland

• Impact on village setting

• Increased HGV traffic

• Cumulative impact of development around East Midlands Airport

📍 Bushby (Zouche Way)

Proposal: 130 homes

Location: North of the A47

Key concerns:

• Loss of agricultural land

• Impact on local wildlife

• Increased congestion

• Erosion of village identity

📍 Lutterworth

Proposal: 230 homes

Location: Leicester Road

Key concerns:

• Loss of Area of Separation

• Impact on rural character

• Infrastructure concerns

• Biodiversity shortfall

📍 Husbands Bosworth

Proposal: 150 homes

Location: East of Townend Close

Key concerns:

• Development outside village limits

• Impact on High Leicestershire landscape

• Missing ecological surveys

• Conflict with local planning policies

📍 Broughton Astley

Proposal: 550 homes and community facilities

Location: Frolesworth Road

Key concerns:

• Large-scale countryside loss

• Pressure on services and roads

• Heritage impacts

• Ecological concerns

📍 Scraptoft

Proposal: 950 homes, school and later living complex

Location: South of Covert Lane

Key concerns:

• Loss of Green Wedge land

• Urban sprawl

• Traffic impacts

• Loss of rural character

📍 Bushby (Uppingham Road)

Proposal: Up to 900 homes, school and local centre

Location: South of Uppingham Road

Key concerns:

• Loss of Green Wedge protection

• Threat to village identities

• Impact on veteran trees and wildlife

• Significant traffic increases

📍 Markfield

Proposal: J22/M1 Logistics Park

Location: Near Charnwood Forest

Key concerns:

• Loss of greenfield land

• Impact on biodiversity

• Noise and light pollution

• Industrialisation of a sensitive rural landscape
